Estate Litigation Associate – Long Island Jobs in New Hyde Park, NY at Lord Gurman & Lewis LLC

Growing law firm is seeking an experienced and compassionate Immigration Attorney with a minimum of five years of experience in immigration law. The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in removal defense, family-based immigration matters, and post-conviction relief.

Responsibilities:

Defends noncitizens against removal from the United States, representing both detained and non-detained individuals before the Immigration Court, the Board of Immigration Appeals.
Handles challenges to immigration detention and addresses legal or constitutional issues involving DHS and EOIR conduct.
Represents noncitizens in applications for affirmative immigration relief to prevent or mitigate deportation.
Provides legal consultations to public defenders on the immigration consequences of criminal convictions.
Advocates on behalf of noncitizen clients within the criminal legal system, collaborating with judges, prosecutors, probation officers, and service providers.
Conducts client screenings and initial investigations to assess eligibility for immigration relief or post-conviction relief.
Represents clients in post-conviction relief motions to vacate, modify, or reduce prior convictions to address immigration consequences.
Assists clients with family-based immigration petitions, including spousal and fiancé visas, adjustment of status, green cards, and citizenship applications.
Provides legal advice and representation on waiver applications for inadmissibility issues.
Stays informed of changes in case law from the Supreme Court, U.S. Court of Appeals, Board of Immigration Appeals, and other relevant authorities.

Qualifications:

Holds a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
Maintains active membership and good standing with the State Bar.
Possesses a minimum of five years of experience in removal defense, post-conviction relief, and/or family-based immigration matters.
Demonstrates experience advising criminal defense attorneys on the immigration consequences of criminal convictions.
Has experience in federal court practice and post-conviction relief litigation.

Job Types: Part-time, Contract

Pay: $50.00 – $75.00 per hour
