Small New York general practice law firm with a boutique immigration practice seeking a licensed immigration associate with minimum 2 years experience. Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a busy, high-paced environment is a must. High case turnover as new clients and cases come in daily. Although the position requires the ability to work independently, you would receive direct hands-on supervision and training by a highly experienced partner. Through constant client contact, you will also learn client relations, the business aspect of private practice, and valuable interviewing and investigative skills. The practice consists of complex family petitions, removals, political asylum, federal appeals, motions to reopen. Must have a demonstrated interest to specialize in all facets of immigration law. Desire to litigate cases and attend immigration court or USCIS hearings daily at 26 Federal Plaza or Newark is required. Some occasional travel to other jurisdictions on immigration matters required. Candidate will also receive some generalized training in general civil and criminal litigation as this is a general practice firm (family law, criminal defense, etc), and prior experience in these fields is also an asset. Your court calendar would also include some appearances in New York’s Criminal, Family, Civil or Supreme Courts under the direct training and supervision of a partner. We are looking to fill a permanent position with a candidate that desires job stability and would like to work in a great office for many years to come. Excellent opportunity for promotion and advancement. Of course, foreign languages, especially Spanish, a plus. Ability to bring in clients will be highly considered and rewarded.
