Department overview:
Legal department partners with management, business and other corporate divisions to support business to achieve long-term and sustainable business success with significant emphasis on ethics, compliance and conduct. Within legal department, we have transaction legal team that supports respective business as well as corporate and regional legal that provides legal advice and support to the respective regional management and entities.
Role description:
This is a regional role based in Singapore, with (i) primary reporting to the Head of Employment Legal (AEJ), and (ii) secondary reporting to a member of the Litigation and Investigations team (AEJ). Regional coverage includes the following locations: Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, S. Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines and Australia.
Responsibilities:
This role will require the candidate to provide legal support on a wide range of local and cross-border employment-related issues. In particular, the candidate will be responsible for:
- Advising on legal aspects of HR processes and operations
- Preparing and maintaining employment-related letter templates, employment handbooks and policies
- Supporting ER matters, performance cases, employee-related investigations and disciplinary matters
- Handling labour disputes and employment litigation, including wrongful termination claims
- Advising on employee-related data privacy issues
- Working with external counsel where needed
In addition, this role will require the candidate to provide support the Litigation and Investigations team in relation to the following:
- Assist in dealing with and managing investigations (regulatory and/or internal) across the firm’s business activities
- Reviewing investigation materials, conduct interviews, prepare investigation reports
- Respond to enquiries and requests from regulatory authority, law enforcement unit and internal stakeholders.
- Working with external counsel where needed (as above)
Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:
- Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 3+ years (VP) / 7+ years (ED) experience of employment legal and employee relations and/or disputes in Asia
- Litigation experience is also a requirement
- Experience within the financial services industry
- Ability to cope with highly demanding and fast paced banking environment
- Demonstrate sound commercial experience and judgment
- Good interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, and take ownership of issues and matters to their successful conclusion
- Demonstrated integrity and ability to foster a compliance culture
- Excellent organizational skills, including ability to prioritize and manage projects and templates
- Solid legal drafting skills
- In-house experience preferred
- Proficiency in Mandarin (reading, writing, and speaking) is an advantage where required to support business or client needs.
