Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this position. They are not to be construed as exclusive or all-
inclusive.
➢ Prepare, review, analyze, and interpret various documents, including ordinances, resolutions,
contracts, policies, reports, and general correspondence.
➢ Prepare and review documents for acquisition of supplies and equipment, and for construction of
public works projects in accordance with City policies and applicable statutes.
➢ Prepare, review, and negotiate changes to contracts for services.
➢ Research, analyze, and interpret state and federal laws and regulations and perform other legal
research projects.
➢ Answer inquiries or make inquiries of City staff to interpret applicable legal requirements and
provisions relative to City codes, statutes, regulations, and procedures.
➢ Assist the City’s Human Resources Manager with human resources, personnel, and employment
related matters.
o Research and summarize changes in employment and labor laws, updating policies and
practices as needed.
o Assist in ensuring compliance with employment laws, including FMLA, FLSA, ADA, Title VI,
Title VII, etc.
➢ Oversee the collection of damages caused to City property.
➢ Oversee filing of and monitor claims filed against City.
➢ Oversee, coordinate, and respond to public records requests.
➢ Perform administrative and office management responsibilities, including filing, ordering supplies,
processing claims, processing department payroll, and tracking department expenditures.
➢ Perform other duties as required.
Minimum Training and Experience Required:
➢ Bachelor’s, Associate’s, or technical degree with coursework in paralegal studies and/or related
field.
➢ Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant work experience in a law office or similar environment.
Special Requirements:
➢ No special licensure is required; however, a Paralegal Certification is preferred.
➢ Ability to utilize LexisNexis and internet sites to perform legal research.
➢ Ability to efficiently utilize software, including Word and Excel.
Minimum Physical and Mental Abilities Required:
➢ Ability to exert physical effort in sedentary to light work involving routine stooping, kneeling,
crouching, and reaching.
➢ Ability to sit or stand at a desk for long periods of time.
➢ Ability to operate a variety of office equipment.

➢ Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, calculate decimals and percentages, and measure data.

➢ Ability to type accurately at a speed necessary for successful job performance.
➢ Ability to organize projects and files with strong attention to detail.
➢ Ability to take initiative to complete projects with little or no direction.
➢ Ability to accurately record and deliver information, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality of
restricted information.
➢ Ability to work under stressful conditions and to balance priorities within and between city
departments.
➢ Ability to speak Spanish helpful.
Environmental Adaptability:
➢ Ability to work effectively in an office environment.
Rate of Pay:
➢ Hourly Wage Range: $22.61 – $33.91. Starting wage is dependent upon qualifications.
➢ Grade 12 as designated by current salary ordinance.
Work Hours:
Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
