We are looking for an experienced skilled litigation paralegal to join our team. You will be responsible for the coordination of all details before, during, and after trial. The successful candidate will be able to provide assistance during all phases of the litigation process including conducting intake interviews, drafting various attorney lien and preservation of evidence letters, ordering and reviewing medical bills and records, legal research, assist with issuing and answering written discovery, document filing, trial preparation, trial attendance, and obtaining appropriate signatures on settlement documents. Our paralegals will be afforded many opportunities to engage in substantive legal work and to sit in on/assist with the trials for your assigned cases. About our Firm

O’Connor Law Firm is a boutique litigation firm specializing in Plaintiff’s Personal Injury/Wrongful Death, Civil Rights, and Medical Malpractice. We do not shy away from taking cases all the way to trial and frequently obtain settlements and verdicts for our clients in the six-and seven-figure range. Our firm is fully in-office Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities:

Conduct pre-claim investigation, legal research, and initial case assessments
Draft pleadings, motions, and notices, and file them with the court
Perform administrative duties (calendar hearings and deadlines, organize case files, manage logistics, tec.)
Maintain pleadings and discovery indexes
Organize exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs, and appendices for pleadings, depositions, and trial.
Aid attorneys with interrogatories and other written discovery requests
Maintain regular contact with clients, providing updates on their case
Provide assistance with liens and post-settlement procedure

Skills

Applicable knowledge of motion practice, written discovery, evidence, litigation documentation, court rules and procedures, e-filing, etc.
Highly organized with the ability to juggle multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Strong writing and communication skills
Attention to detail
Extensive computer and database expertise, preferably including Adobe Acrobat, Smokeball legal software, Odyssey E-File, PACER, and Cook County Clerk of Court Portal

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and/or Paralegal Studies Certificate
3-5 Years of experience as a paralegal
