Family Court Legal Advocate (Offsite Campus – Travis County District Attorney)

SAFE Alliance seeks a Family Court Legal Advocate for the Community Services Program in the Legal Services department. The advocate will directly provide advocacy and support through mechanisms such as conducting in court contacts, screening victims for high-risk safety concerns, offering information and referrals, and providing on-the-spot crisis intervention and safety planning. The FCLA will train volunteers on 3 track options for and coordinate with the Court Watch Program and Planet SAFE. This includes supervising, providing orientations, onboarding, training, evaluations, and scheduling volunteers.

Our various housing and shelter programs have provided over 46,000 nights/days of care and served over 3,000 youth and adults directly affected by abuse. We have provided over 10,000 callers/chats/texts, walk-in advocacy and crisis interventions or face-to-face emotional support through our 24/7 confidential SAFEline.

Position Details:

We are looking for one person to work on a full-time, exempt basis for an annual salary of $49,000 to $52,000 dependent upon experience and an additional annual language differential of $3,600 for those who are English/Spanish bilingual. The work location will be based at an Offsite Campus in Downtown Austin. This position will include some travel in the community or between campuses and will allow for some remote/hybrid work.

Required Qualifications:

Possess a bachelor’s degree in social or behavioral sciences, or related field. Sufficient relevant work experience may be substituted for degree.
Knowledge of issues related to violence against women, sexual assault, and domestic violence.
Experience providing crisis stabilization support and advocacy or case management services to trauma/domestic violence /sexual assault survivors required.
Experience coordinating, training and supervising volunteers strongly preferred.
Characterized as primarily sedentary work requiring exertion up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Must be sighted and hearing, with reasonable accommodations, and able to stand in small spaces for 2 or more hours during accompaniments.
Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
Significant computer work is required, must be proficient in the use of office applications and data entry required; excellent organizational and administrative skills required.
Regular travel between court houses and community agencies. Must have and maintain reliable mode of transportation. Mileage reimbursement is provided for required travel outside of expected role.
This position requires driving. You must have a valid, State of Texas Driver’s License (If in possession of an out-of-state license, obtain a State of Texas Driver’s License within 90 days of beginning employment.) AND at least three (3) consecutive years of driving experience OR one (1) year of driving experience if over 27 years of age AND an acceptable driving record that covers at least the last three years of driver history.
This position requires completion of the 40-Hour Office of Attorney General Sexual Assault Advocacy Training Program in person within six (6) months of starting employment, along with participating in annual continuing education throughout your employment.
Pass all required criminal history background checks (including an FBI fingerprint check if applicable), as well as a pre-employment drug screen and TB test, if applicable.
