THIS IS A GRANT-FUNDED POSITION.
Under close supervision, performs a variety of legal secretarial and general clerical duties in support of the Hamilton County General Sessions Court Judges’ Office, the Chief Court Administrator, and other Hamilton County constitutional offices, as assigned.

Tasks
Provides general assistance and court project implementation support to the Chief Court Administrator. Schedules, coordinates, and records minutes for relevant court related meetings. Answers phone calls and assists attorneys and general public with court related matters. Implementation of special projects through strategies, including but not limited to, implementing changes to process, documentation, and data practices. Maintains certain court related files. Collects program reporting data and complies project-based progress reports. Prepares court documents. Prepares and proofs legal documents. Performs legal research utilizing LexisNexis Advance and concisely summarizes the researched issue. Maintains and updates specialized legal filing system. Works closely with clerks, law enforcement officers, and other court staff to keep all courtrooms running smoothly.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
Knowledge of legal terminology and the forms and documents used in legal clerical work.
Knowledge of civil legal procedures and practices involved in composing, processing, and filing a variety of legal documents.
Knowledge of standard legal references and their contents.
Knowledge of modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment.
Knowledge of data collection and tracking processes and procedures.
Knowledge of local community organizations undertaking court adjacent initiatives.
Knowledge of and skill in LexisNexis Advance.
Skill in the use of a personal computer and related software.
Skill in English composition, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Skill in verbal and written communication.
Skill in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Skill and ability to work in high stress environment.
Skill and ability to work with the general public while maintaining a professional demeanor.
Minimum Qualifications
The equivalent of a high school diploma plus at least five (5) years of clerk or paralegal work experience in a law office/firm or court system is required. Must be able to type at least 45 words per minute. A valid driver’s license is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Five (5) years or more of clerk or paralegal work experience in a civil law office/firm is preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work requires a minimum to moderate amount of physical effort with filing, sitting, standing, walking and occasional driving.
Excessive keyboarding is required.

All positions within Hamilton County Government may require work on Holidays or weekends. Additionally, irregular hours and shift work may be required, including possible extension of shift hours, at times with short notice.
