Description:
Under the general direction of the Assistant Dean J.D. Program (“Assistant Dean”), and the Associate Dean, Research (“Associate Dean”) where appropriate, the Director of the International Human Rights Program (the “IHRP”) at the Henry N.R. Jackman Faculty of Law (“the Faculty”) provides clinical, educational, and administrative leadership and support to the IHRP.
Working within the academic mandate and structures of the Faculty and the University of Toronto, the incumbent is the primary contact and responsible for all matters related to the IHRP. The Director takes a leading role in developing strategic priorities, objectives, policies and protocols for the IHRP. In consultation with the Faculty Advisory Committee, the Director oversees all of the IHRP’s advocacy initiatives, including the clinic, working groups, speaker series, student publications and reports.
The Director engages in pedagogical activities including directly supervising students working on advocacy and clinical projects, developing IHRP experiential education offerings including mentorship initiatives and summer fellowships, and organizing seminars, programs, workshops and conferences.
The Director is also responsible for drafting position papers, reports, and pleadings; representing the IHRP to various stakeholder groups, including the legal profession, judiciary, policy makers, public interest advocates, private organizations, government, funders, and law schools across Canada and internationally; and overseeing all operations, including internal and external communications, finances, fundraising, public relations, and publications.
