Arlington County is seeking a motivated and highly detailed administrative Court Assistant to support a variety of functions within the Clerk of the Circuit Court’s Office.

Specific duties include:

Entering case data, including filing details and party information, into a computerized database system;
Determining fees and/or court costs for specific filings and cases;
Analyzing legal documents to determine proper processing;
Responding to questions from court personnel and the public regarding court processes and procedures in person at the front counter, via email, and by telephone;
Reviewing court orders for scheduling and other dispositions to ensure compliance with judges’ rulings;
Preparing and administering oaths of public offices;
Preparing and issuing appropriate court documents;
Processing, indexing and filing court documents both in paper and electronically to maintain accurate and complete court records; and
Receipting transactions in computerized financial system.

The ideal candidate will be highly detailed and demonstrate great levels of accuracy to perform the daily work. Due to the extensive interaction with people including attorneys, court personnel, and the general public this position requires strong interpersonal skills to respond to a variety of individuals and situations.

Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent; and considerable administrative support experience which includes a full range of administrative support functions to include data entry, filing, maintaining records, and providing direct service to the public in person or by telephone in a court or legal environment.

Substitution: College education may substitute on a year-for year basis for up to two years of the experience requirement.

Desirable: Preference will be given to applicants with one or more of the following:

Familiarity with legal terminology; and/or
Experience calculating complex fees accurately.

Special Requirements

A pre-hire background check will be made on all candidates who qualify for this position. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure and credit history. You will be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.

Additional Information

This is a 40 hour a week position. Normal work hours are 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
