Data Privacy Specialist
Office of General Counsel – Global Data Privacy Team – Leading international law firm
A leading global law firm is looking for a Data Privacy Specialist to join the Global Data Privacy Team within its Office of General Counsel. This team co-ordinates the firm's worldwide data privacy compliance programme and supports its member firms and entities across the globe on every aspect of data protection.
Working closely with the Global Data Privacy Counsel and Data Privacy Lawyer, you'll play a hands-on part in one of the most in-demand areas of law and compliance, with the mentoring, structure and international reach of a top-tier firm behind you. Prior data privacy experience is helpful but not essential: what matters most is a genuine appetite to build real expertise in this field.
Why this role stands out
- A future-proof specialism. Data privacy is one of the fastest-growing, most sought-after areas in the profession. This is a rare chance to build deep, marketable expertise in it from within a genuinely global function.
- Truly global exposure. You'll work on multi-jurisdictional matters spanning the firm's member firms and entities worldwide, from cross-border data transfers to global surveys and firm-wide policy.
- Learn from the best. You'll be mentored directly by senior in-house privacy counsel, gaining structured development and hands-on experience across the full privacy lifecycle.
- Varied, substantive work. No two days look the same, spanning DPIAs and data processing agreements, data subject requests, client questionnaires, policy design and template-building.
- Real impact. Your work directly shapes and strengthens how a major international firm manages data privacy compliance across the globe.
- Open to a range of backgrounds. Whether you already have privacy experience or are looking to move into the field, a strong interest and the right attitude count for as much as your CV.
Already have data privacy experience?
You'll be able to hit the ground running on DPIAs, DPAs, transfer impact assessments and data subject rights, while broadening into global policy and programme work across many jurisdictions, deepening your expertise within a sophisticated, well-resourced international function.
Looking to specialise in data privacy?
This is an ideal launchpad. You don't need prior privacy experience, just a real interest in the area and a willingness to learn. You'll be trained and supported by senior counsel as you build genuine expertise in one of the most valuable and future-proof specialisms in the market.
What you'll be doing
- Reviewing and amending client data privacy terms, and completing client questionnaires and transfer impact assessments.
- Reviewing and amending data processing agreements with vendors, and assisting with intra-group data transfer arrangements and related contracts.
- Supporting the team in carrying out Data Privacy Impact Assessments (DPIAs).
- Co-ordinating multi-jurisdictional surveys on data privacy topics.
- Helping develop and update data privacy notices, policies, procedures and template documents to streamline compliance across the firm.
- Assisting with Data Subject Access Requests and other data subject rights.
- Liaising with the firm's Global Data Privacy Working Group and other bodies, including arranging meetings, preparing agendas and circulating minutes and action items.
- Monitoring the general data privacy inbox and maintaining the repository of compliance records.
What we're looking for
- A strong interest in developing expertise in data privacy and compliance.
- Previous data privacy experience is helpful but not essential.
- Excellent attention to detail, organisation and the ability to manage varied tasks.
- Confident written and verbal communication skills, and a collaborative, proactive approach.
- Comfort working across teams and jurisdictions within a global organisation.
The offer
