Position Overview
The Director of Legal Advocacy will oversee and coordinate all legal advocacy services for survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV), stalking, and sexual assault (SA). This individual will accompany survivors to court and supervise a team of legal advocates responsible for preparing TPO documents. The Director of Legal Advocacy will ensure compliance with grant-related activities, maintain accurate records, provide training to staff, and community partners.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Advocacy and Supervision
Oversee the preparation and filing of TPOs in superior court, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Supervise and mentor a team of legal advocates, providing guidance and oversight on legal advocacy activities.
Accompany survivors to TPO hearings and provide support, advocacy, and culturally appropriate referrals.
Maintain accurate documentation of TPO filings and ensure timely submission of monthly reports to the Executive Director and Director of Programs.
Compliance and Reporting
Ensure all grant-related activities are completed in compliance with guidelines.
Maintain specified documentation related to grant compliance and funding requirements.
Monitor and stay abreast of legal changes and trends relevant to IPV, stalking, and SA.
Training and Community Engagement
Conduct regular training sessions for staff and community partners on legal advocacy, changes in the law, and best practices in trauma-informed care.
Facilitate a biweekly evening legal advice clinic for agency clients involved in domestic civil cases.
Client-Centered Advocacy
Provide trauma-informed, survivor-centered advocacy that empowers clients to make informed decisions.
Collaborate with internal team and external partners to ensure comprehensive support for survivors.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s Degree
Experience
Demonstrated experience providing direct service to survivors of IPV, stalking, and SA in a social service or government agency setting.
Strong understanding of trauma-informed care principles and their application in legal advocacy.
Supervisory or leadership experience preferred, including managing and training staff in a legal or advocacy role.
Skills and Competencies
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain detailed documentation.
Knowledge of civil and family law, particularly as it relates to protective orders and domestic cases preferred.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations and community partners.
Work Environment
Regular attendance at TPO court hearings (virtual and in-person).
Availability for evening hours to facilitate a legal clinic.
May require occasional travel for training or community outreach activities.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 – $90,000.00 per year
