Introduction
Legal Services Branch (LSB) is the Government of Manitoba’s full service in-house civil law office of about 60 lawyers. It provides a complete range of high quality legal services to all government departments, and to agencies, boards, commissions and corporations that do not have their own legal counsel.
LSB’s work enables the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Manitoba to fulfill the constitutional and statutory responsibility of Chief Legal Advisor to Government, and as the guardian of the public interest with
respect

Qualifications:
ESSENTIAL:
Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor (J.D) degree
Experience practicing corporate commercial law in a common law jurisdiction
Experience leading / participating in negotiations
Ability to develop strategy, provide legal advice and make recommendations
Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to recognize and assess legal implications and policy options
Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to work in a high pressure and time sensitive environment to meet conflicting deadlines
Superior written communication skills, including experience drafting agreements and legal opinions
Strong verbal communication and presentation skills
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain strong and positive working relationships, including with co-workers, clients and external interests
DESIRED:
Knowledge of or exposure to Aboriginal Law or Indigenous laws
Experience advising clients in the public sector
Experience with construction law and financial transactions
Duties:
We are seeking advisory counsel to join our Corporate Commercial and Information Technology Section to:
• Participate in strategic discussions with clients
• Lead or participate in negotiations with third parties
• Draft agreements and other documents, and provide support in contract interpretation and administration
• Conduct legal research and analysis of legal problems
• Prepare legal opinions
• Provide legal advice and assistance on general corporate and commercial matters
• from time to time, participate in the review and development of legislation, and in providing
education
and training opportunities for clients and colleagues
