Responsibilities
- Conduct health care fraud and patient abuse investigations, including on‑site inspections and evidence collection.
- Assist criminal justice personnel—analysts, auditors, and prosecutors—in investigations.
- Develop and maintain familiarity with computer software programs used in unit investigations.
- Stay current on trends and developments related to health care fraud and patient abuse.
- Respond to assignments and requests for assistance promptly, reviewing documentation and conducting interviews.
- Plan and gather information for investigations involving health care fraud and patient abuse.
- Assist in executing and planning on‑site search warrants, obtaining and seizing evidence.
- Prepare charts, schedules, and presentations for prosecution of health care fraud cases.
- Maintain chain of custody for evidence in accordance with laws, guidelines, and policies.
- Collect, review, and evaluate documentation such as medical records, billing records, and financial data.
- Create and analyze databases, including source, expenditure, and cash flow analyses of suspects.
- Search public records, governmental databases, and commercial databases for evidence.
- Identify potential assets subject to seizure.
- Organize, analyze, and process evidence for investigative and prosecutorial purposes.
- Use computers and software to conduct investigations, create databases, spreadsheets, graphs, and presentations.
- Prepare thorough and accurate reports documenting interviews, search warrants, seizures, analyses, and database searches.
- Distribute copies of reports to appropriate parties in a timely manner.
- Present courtroom testimony with proper demeanor and assist prosecutors in coordinating pre‑trial activities.
- Coordinate and prepare courtroom testimony with the prosecuting attorney.
- Maintain supplies, reports, equipment, and relationships with other agencies per unit requirements.
- Maintain equipment, supplies, and relationships with other agencies, departments, and the public.
- Stay professionally updated through seminars, meetings, and reading relevant literature.
- Interact with state and local government personnel respectfully and cooperatively.
- Accept direction, feedback, and responsibility for mistakes, taking action to prevent recurrence.
- Use established communication channels and maintain professional relationships.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current Georgia POST PBLE (Post Basic Law Enforcement) certification that is active and in good standing.
- Twelve (12) months of fraud investigation or related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university, majoring in Criminal Justice or a related field.
- Digital Forensics experience.
- Certified Fraud Examiner.
- Demonstrated analytical skills.
- State training and verification of selected courses.
- Completion of any item in the above list will result in a preference advantage.
