Base pay range

$73,939.00/yr – $/yr

Duties

Serves as a Criminal Investigator in Internal Affairs on Indian reservations and trust lands.

Performs the full range of in-depth investigative duties requiring a comprehensive knowledge of law enforcement and skills.

Conducts internal investigations of law enforcement officers misconduct.

Organizes, plans, and conducts investigations of major and/or sensitive criminal activity impacting Indian country.

Apprehends, arrests, detains, and interviews suspects of violations of laws.

Testifies at hearings and trials, secures search warrants, gathers evidence at crime scenes.

Prepares investigation reports for submission to law enforcement, attorneys, or prosecutors.

Performs surveillance and undercover assignments to obtain evidence and establish probable cause.

Requirements Conditions of Employment

U.S. Citizenship Required

Preference given to qualified Indian candidates (Form BIA
-4432 required if claiming Indian Preference)

Federal payments via Direct Deposit

Probationary/trial period may be required

Background security investigation required

Military Selective Service registration if applicable

Valid driver’s license and safe driving record

Pre-employment and random drug testing

Secondary Law Enforcement Retirement Coverage

Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP) of 25%

Qualifications

GS-11: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-09 or 3 years of graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent, or a combination thereof.

GS-12: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11 involving complex criminal investigations.

Medical Requirements

Moderate to arduous physical exertion, good vision, hearing, emotional and mental stability required.

Age and Firearms Requirements

Maximum entry age 37 unless prior federal law enforcement experience or veteran status. Firearms qualification required.

Residency

Must reside within 50 miles of duty station unless waived.

Provide transcripts if qualifying by education.
