Working in the Criminal department as a Paralegal you will perform critical legal work in the office, court and police stations (if PS qualified). It will be your responsibility to assist the Solicitor/FE in the preparation of cases in the Crown Court.

Overall Purpose of the Role
Supporting fee earners dealing with clients, witnesses, prosecution, courts and third parties both face to face, on the telephone and in writing
Drafting/completing legal aid applications and monitoring progress
Taking instructions from clients and witnesses
File opening and on going file maintenance
Dealing with case documents electronically
Preparation of court bundles
Closing and archiving old case files
Drafting letters, preparation of file notes, telephones notes and other correspondence.
Drafting court documents
Diary management to include arranging appointments, client meetings
Attending meetings with fee earners and taking notes.
Scanning post and other documents to case management system and filing.
Collating enclosures for post.
Liaising with the accounts team to process payments and assist with interim billing.
Performing other office duties as required.
Role Specific
Minimum 2 years’ experience in crime
Full Driving Licence
Ability to work under pressure and comply with deadlines
The necessary skills in respect of client care
Work well as part of a Team
Excellent written and verbal communication
Good organisation skills
Good fact finding ability
Have an eye for attention to detail
Managing varied workload
Develop and maintain excellent relationships; internal and external
Be PC literate having good knowledge of the Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Use of case management software
Use of the Legal Aid Agency portal, CCMS
