The Tennessee Attorney General and Reporter represents all State executives, officials, departments, boards, agencies, and commissions in matters arising from their public duties. Such representation includes participation in litigation, transactional matters, and giving day-to-day legal advice to a wide variety of State entities. The Attorney General’s Office employs approximately 200 attorneys organized into 17 regular divisions within 5 sections.

About the Real Property and Transportation Division

The Real Property and Transportation Division is part of the Civil Law Section.The Division represents the Tennessee Department of Transportation in its acquisition of property and property rights for public use through eminent domain. The Division has offices in Nashville, Knoxville, Chattanooga and Jackson. This position is in Knoxville.

Key Responsibilities:

· Produce pleadings and proposed orders for attorney review

· Direct interactions and communications with:

o Court clerks’ offices (day travel often required)

o Staff and managers at TDOT and other state agencies

· Maintain case calendar deadlines

· Review form documents for clerical errors/mistakes

· File documents electronically to the appropriate courts

· Maintain electronic case files and data, keep detailed notes on electronic case management system

· Process of service for lawsuits

· Contact opposing counsels for procedural and scheduling purposes

· Other responsibilities as determined by the deputy

Minimum Qualifications

Four-year degree or paralegal certification

Ability to use Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel

Ability to use or learn PowerPoint and litigation database software

Proven communication skills, verbal and written

Attention to detail; proof-reading skills a plus

Preferred Qualifications:

Four-year degree or paralegal certification

Experience with real estate title research and knowledge of deed plotting

Familiarity with legal research

Notary public certification

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 – $55,000.00 per year
