Job Summary

Provides security at the Alamosa County Justice Center. Work schedule is usually 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.

Essential Job Functions

  • Observes all persons entering the courtroom, their movement and activities; limits access to the bench and other restricted areas.
  • Monitors entry magnetometer.
  • Searches the interior of the courtroom, judicial chambers, jury room, restrooms and other restricted areas each morning prior to the arrival of other court participants, and may conduct similar searches following recesses to ensure rooms are clear of weapons, explosives or contraband.
  • Assists all court personnel with security issues as needed.
  • Provides direction and general information to persons entering the building.
  • Assists generally in court regarding signing of orders and other documents.
  • Sees to the needs of the jury, monitoring, directing and controlling juror activities, including verdict deliberation period, to ensure performance of court duties in compliance with orders, rules and regulations by observing and informing jurors of proper procedures when appropriate.
  • Ensures that criminal defendants in custody are prevented from having physical contact with family, friends or spectators to prevent the passing of weapons or contraband.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Enforces laws and ordinances and investigates violations.
  • Follows department policies and procedures and studies applicable federal, state and local laws and ordinances.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of arrestee rights.
  • Familiar with preventive, protective and defensive tactics.
  • Mediates disputes and responds to notices of disturbance.
  • Uses computer skills, including record keeping.
  • Shows up for work on time and is ready to work.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Ability to work schedule to meet all obligations of the position.

  • Knowledge of court systems and procedure.

Education and Experience

  • Post Certified preferred, but not required.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred, but not required.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in law enforcement.
  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Colorado Driver’s License required.

Physical Requirements , Work Conditions, and Environment

Must possess the physical ability to run for long periods of time, if necessary, in pursuit of a suspect, to contain and apprehend the suspect once captured, to operate communication equipment, firearms, electronic control board, stun devices, camera equipment, handcuffs and leg irons, tactical equipment, bullet‑proof vest, PR24 baton or ASP, restraint equipment, fire control equipment, and O.C. spray. Position requires the ability to operate a computer keyboard and standard office equipment at efficient speed.

The employee is required to stand, sit for long periods, talk and hear. Hearing and vision must be within normal ranges. The employee may need to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, carry, twist, push and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight, drive for extended periods, and may lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and sometimes 50 to 100 pounds.

Noise levels may range from very quiet to noisy depending on the situation.
