Overview
Counsel — Corporate / M&A (+8 years) Jobs in Athens, Attiki, Greece at ABLAW
Title: Counsel — Corporate / M&A (+8 years)
Company: ABLAW
Location: Athens, Attiki, Greece
ABLAW is a boutique Athens-based corporate law firm advising credit institutions, listed companies, private equity sponsors and major corporates on their most significant transactions. We think of law as transactional engineering — pragmatic yet inventive in creating value, combining academic excellence with business sense. We are expanding our corporate practice and are looking for a Counsel to take a leading role in high-profile M&A, capital markets and private equity mandates.
The role
This is a senior, high-autonomy position. You will report to and work in direct contact with the Managing Partner, and partner with the firm's partners on the firm's largest and most complex deals. At the same time, you will carry full ownership of smaller mandates, running them independently end-to-end — so the ability to work autonomously, exercise judgement and drive matters to completion on your own is essential.
What you will do:
• Work directly with the Managing Partner and collaborate with the partners on major, often cross-border M&A, private equity and capital markets transactions
• Independently lead smaller mandates end-to-end, with full ownership of strategy, execution and client delivery
• Draft and negotiate transaction documents (SPAs, shareholders' agreements, prospectuses, corporate governance documentation)
• Conduct and supervise legal due diligence and manage deal workstreams
• Advise listed and private clients on corporate, governance and regulatory matters
• Mentor and develop junior associates and trainees
• Maintain and build client relationships
What we are looking for:
• Approximately 8 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in corporate / M&A
• Admitted member of a Greek Bar Association (Athens Bar preferred)
• Training and experience at a top-tier law firm (Greek or international) or the legal arm of a Big-4
• Strong track record across M&A, capital markets and / or private equity
• LLM from a recognised university (Greek or foreign); a PhD or PhD candidacy is a plus
• Excellent written and spoken English and Greek
• Based in (or willing to relocate to) Athens — the role is on-site in Athens
• Proven ability to work independently and lead matters with minimal supervision, combined with strong drafting, analytical and negotiation skills and the maturity to handle clients directly
Why ABLAW:
• A boutique practice built around landmark transactions for credit institutions, listed companies, PE sponsors and major corporates
• A partner- and counsel-heavy model — our ratio of partners and senior counsels to associates is far above that of our major competitors, which means real responsibility and genuine quality work rather than volume
• A multidisciplinary, pragmatic and inventive approach that values academic excellence alongside commercial sense
• Competitive remuneration commensurate with seniority and experience
Our environment:
• A collegial, supportive team where you are a name, not a number — direct, open communication and genuine collaboration with the partners
• Bright, modern offices in central Athens, designed for focused work and easy collaboration
• The sophistication and calibre of large-firm work, without the impersonal pressure and anonymity of the big firms — demanding matters handled in a more supportive, human setting
• A healthy, sustainable pace and real respect for work-life balance
• A flat, non-hierarchical culture where good ideas are heard, whoever raises them
