Introduction
Aspire Recruiting is partnering with a prestigious corporate client to source a strategic, commercially minded Corporate Legal Advisor. This role is designed for a resilient legal professional who excels in navigating complex regulatory landscapes and providing actionable legal counsel to business stakeholders. The successful candidate will act as a trusted advisor, safeguarding the company’s legal interests while facilitating its commercial objectives.
Duties
and Responsibilities
- Provide strategic, day-to-day legal and commercial advice to executive management and various business units.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a broad spectrum of commercial contracts (e.g., vendor agreements, NDAs, IT agreements, and commercial leases).
- Ensure organizational compliance with relevant statutory and regulatory frameworks, including the Companies Act, POPIA, and the Consumer Protection Act (CPA).
- Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and commercial risks across all business operations and proposed transactions.
- Manage corporate governance matters, including preparing board resolutions and advising on director duties.
- Liaise with and manage external legal counsel on specialized matters or litigation.
- Develop and implement internal legal policies, standard operating procedures, and compliance training for staff.
Desired Experience & Qualifications
- Education: Completed LLB degree from a recognized university.
- Professional Status: Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa is highly preferred.
- Experience: A minimum of 3 years Post Qualification Experience (PQE) in a corporate/commercial legal environment (in-house experience is highly advantageous).
- Knowledge: Robust understanding of South African corporate law, contract law, and regulatory compliance.
- Skills: Strong business acumen with the ability to translate complex legal jargon into practical commercial advice. Excellent negotiation, drafting, and stakeholder management skills.
- Attributes: Highly organized, proactive, and capable of working autonomously in a fast-paced corporate environment.
