Our firm is seeking a Criminal Defense Paralegal to join our growing team. While much of the work can be done remotely, this role requires the ability to travel to various courts throughout Kansas and come into the office as needed.

Key Responsibilities

1. Case Production Support (40%)

Draft and prepare pleadings, motions, subpoenas, and discovery responses.
Summarize police reports, witness statements, and discovery materials for attorney review.
Organize case files and ensure all documents are properly labeled, indexed, and accessible.
Assist attorneys and the Case Manager in maintaining case progression according to deadlines.

2. Discovery and Evidence Management (25%)

Review discovery, identify key evidence, and prepare summaries and timelines.
Track discovery deadlines and coordinate responses with the Case Manager.
Draft and send records requests, and follow up to ensure receipt of necessary evidence.

3. Trial and Hearing Support (15%)

Prepare trial binders, exhibits, and witness lists.
Assist in organizing and managing exhibits and evidence for hearings and trials.
Support attorneys during trial prep by managing logistics and ensuring trial materials are complete.

4. Client Communication and Support (10%)

Schedule client meetings and maintain client communication logs.
Provide clients with procedural updates under attorney supervision.
Assist with gathering documents, affidavits, and other materials needed from clients.

5. Administrative and Team Support (10%)

Coordinate closely with the Case Manager to ensure all case deadlines, court dates, and filing requirements are tracked and met.
Assist with document filing (both physical and electronic) with courts and agencies.
Perform general administrative tasks as needed to support attorneys and the Case Manager.

Additional Responsibilities

Team Collaboration

Work closely with Managing Attorneys and the Case Manager to implement case strategy and ensure smooth workflow.
Participate in team meetings to report on case status and upcoming needs.
Support a collaborative, positive work environment where all team members contribute to shared success.

Qualifications

5+ years of experience as a criminal defense paralegal, litigation paralegal, or similar role.
Strong knowledge of legal procedures, case management, and document preparation.
Experience in discovery management and trial support preferred.
Familiarity with Kansas court systems is a plus.
