Position: Housing and Consumer Law Paralegal
Job Description
Position Summary
The Housing and Consumer Law Paralegal ensures the efficient delivery of client services and the harmonious maintenance of internal operations within the Housing and Consumer Law Unit. The paralegal works under the direct supervision of the unit’s supervising attorney and other attorneys in the unit. They assist attorneys and take primary responsibility for case files, acting with a significant degree of independence and responsibility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Summarize legal documents
Coordinate and perform legal research
Check legal forms for accuracy
Prepare reports
Prepare correspondence
Draft legal documents
Interview clients to gather information
Deliver and file documents as needed
Assist with outreach activities
Represent clients at administrative hearings where permissible, and assist in preparing appeals in collaboration with supervising attorneys
Perform other duties as required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Fluency in English and Spanish is preferred
Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to clients’ needs
Typing speed of at least 40 words per minute and ability to pass secretarial skills test
Knowledge of professional letter formatting
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint, Outlook)
Ability and willingness to interact professionally, efficiently, and compassionately with community members
Education & Experience
Minimum of five years of experience in office administration or management
Associate degree or higher, or a Paralegal Studies certificate
