Key Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance to firm leadership on whether to proceed with prospective clients or engagements, taking into account potential conflicts, sensitivity of information, reputational considerations, and applicable sanctions across jurisdictions.
  • Conduct background reviews and risk evaluations for new business opportunities and client relationships.
  • Support the resolution of conflict-related and compliance concerns by proposing practical approaches, including drafting appropriate consent language and implementing safeguards such as information controls.
  • Respond to internal queries from legal professionals and staff regarding relevant rules, internal standards, and regulatory obligations, particularly in relation to ethical and conflict-related matters.
  • Assess and comment on engagement documentation and external counsel requirements, with a focus on compliance with applicable legal and regulatory frameworks.
  • Provide input on a range of compliance and ethics topics on an as-needed basis, including regulatory correspondence, financial conduct rules, anti-corruption measures, professional practice requirements, and fee arrangements.
  • Participate in the evaluation of potential lateral hires by identifying and analyzing any associated risks or conflicts.
  • Maintain awareness of the organization’s work across different industries and collaborate with multiple practice or sector groups to build effective working relationships.
  • Stay informed about relevant regulatory developments in key jurisdictions and ensure alignment with evolving legal obligations.
  • Work closely with colleagues across internal functions to promote consistent practices and a coordinated global approach.
  • Contribute to internal education initiatives on compliance and risk topics, including onboarding sessions and system-related training, while acting as a representative of the legal and compliance function.
