Role Description The Compliance Officer (Microfinance Bank) is a full-time, on-site role based in Benin City. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring compliance frameworks that align with regulatory requirements for microfinance banking and internal company policies. Daily activities include reviewing and updating compliance policies and procedures, performing compliance risk assessments, and monitoring transactions and operations for potential breaches. The position also involves preparing regulatory reports, coordinating audits and inspections, and liaising with regulators and external stakeholders as needed. The Compliance Officer will train staff on compliance standards, advise management on emerging regulatory changes, and support continuous improvement of controls to safeguard the bank’s integrity and reputation.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of microfinance banking regulations, compliance frameworks, and risk management principles.
  • Experience developing and implementing policies, procedures, and internal controls within a financial services environment.
  • Ability to conduct compliance reviews, audits, and investigations, and to prepare clear and accurate reports for management and regulators.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills for identifying compliance risks and proposing practical solutions.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for training staff, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and engaging regulators.
  • High ethical standards, integrity, and sound judgment in decision-making and handling confidential information.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; professional certifications in compliance or risk management are an advantage.
  • Prior experience in a microfinance bank or similar financial institution in a compliance, risk, or audit role is highly desirable.
