Legal & Compliance Lead – Australia & New Zealand

A fast-growing international fintech firm is looking for an experienced Legal & Compliance professional to oversee regulatory and legal matters in Australia and New Zealand.

This dual-role position is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and wants to help drive compliance excellence and provide legal counsel across the business.

The successful candidate will take ownership of compliance programs, particularly around anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorism financing (CTF), while also advising on commercial legal issues and risk management.

This is a strategic role with wide exposure to senior stakeholders and the global compliance and legal teams.

Key Compliance Duties:

Monitor and ensure compliance with financial regulations in both Australia and New Zealand, with emphasis on fintech.

Lead the design and operation of AML/CTF frameworks to meet regional obligations.

Review and enhance internal compliance procedures and manuals as needed.

Keep up with changes in the regulatory landscape and recommend necessary adjustments.

Act as the main point of contact for regulators, banking partners, and other relevant entities in the region.

Provide regular updates to the global compliance function and support resolution of any compliance gaps.

Legal Responsibilities:

Offer legal advice on commercial activities, including matters related to procurement, labor, IT, R&D, and finance.

Partner with internal teams to support the legal aspects of business growth and product rollouts.

Collaborate with the global legal function on international projects and governance initiatives.

Draft, review, and negotiate business contracts such as vendor, customer, and SaaS agreements.

Ensure compliance with local corporate laws and internal governance policies.

What You Bring:

MUST: Legal qualification in Australia (New Zealand qualification is a bonus).

MUST: At least 3 years’ experience in compliance and legal roles within financial services or fintech

Background in building and managing compliance programs.

Strong interpersonal skills, clear communicator, and confident working across teams and time zones.
