Role Responsibilities

Are you interested in working within a client-focused team involved in filing compliance and collection of monies? As a Compliance Officer (Tax Collections), you will manage a caseload of files, contact clients to clarify requirements, negotiate payment and filing arrangements, proceed with legal actions as required, and document decisions.

Your day-to-day work will include:

  • Contacting taxpayers and debtors to discuss outstanding balances, negotiate payment or filing arrangements, and explain obligations.
  • Reviewing and analyzing information to assess a taxpayer’s or debtor’s situation, including basic review of accounting and financial records.
  • Recommending and taking enforcement action where appropriate, including legal actions to ensure filing and payment of outstanding balances.
  • Maintaining accurate case files including correspondence, file notes, and records of discussions to document and justify actions taken.
  • Educating clients on their requirements and obligations to file and/or pay, and promoting electronic filing and payment options.
  • Responding to inquiries from taxpayers, debtors, employers, accountants, and their representatives on account status and next steps.
  • We will train you on Alberta programs, internal systems, and procedures. The successful candidate will have strong communication skills, sound judgment, excellent ability to organize and a willingness to learn.

  • We encourage applications from candidates with recent transferable experience. You may be a strong fit even without tax collections experience if you have recent experience in areas such as:

  • dispute resolution, enforcement or regulatory compliance
