About Rize

Rize (rize.farm) is a leading Climate/fin-tech startup uniquely positioned to drive solutions that make rice cultivation more sustainable and improve farmer livelihoods in Asia. These sustainable solutions are urgently needed as rice cultivation is one of the largest polluting forms of agriculture globally (even worse than global aviation ) and rice is grown by some of the most climate-exposed smallholder farmer communities in Asia.. Formed through a joint venture between world-class investors: Temasek, Wavemaker Impact, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, and GenZero in 2023, Rize is the only independent platform focusing solely on the sustainable transition of rice cultivation and improving rice farmers’ economic livelihood.

Rize’s technological platform captures vital agricultural data essential for implementing sustainable farming practices. These practices and solutions make rice farmers more climate-resilient, increase crop yields, lowers costs, and facilitates efficient access to financing solutions. Rize currently has operations in Indonesia and Vietnam and plans to expand further within the region. Rize has received substantial global media attention, acknowledging our efforts in this journey – please read more here: Bloomberg, Business Insider, DealStreetAsia.

About the role:

As Rize scales its export volumes and expands into premium sustainability-linked markets, compliance has become a crucial function. The Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring that Rize's products and supply chains meet the regulatory, certification, and buyer-specific requirements of our target export markets, while also supporting the integrity of Rize's sustainability claims and traceability systems.

This role sits within the Export team, working in close collaboration with the Operations team to ensure every Rize rice shipment has passed through rigorous quality control and meets all relevant compliance requirements. You will be expected to be present on the ground at critical stages of the post-harvest process — for example, drying, milling or packaging — to verify that quality standards and buyer specifications are being met before product moves forward in the chain.

What You'll Do

  • Own Post-Harvest Quality & Compliance: Carry full responsibility for the quality and regulatory compliance of rice through the post-harvest process — covering drying, milling, sorting, packaging, and storage. Define and enforce QC standards at each stage in partnership with milling and operations partners, conduct or commission inspections at critical control points, and ensure that no shipment progresses unless it meets Rize's specifications and the importing country's requirements. This implies on site visits during post-harvest process to supervise and document the quality records of each lot.
  • Ensure Documentation Integrity: Ensure all exported products are accompanied by accurate and compliant documentation; work with the export & ops teams to close gaps before shipment.
  • Monitor Regulatory Developments: Track changes in market regulations and proactively assess implications for Rize's product specifications, documentation, and supply chain practices.
  • Maintain Compliance Records: Keep internal compliance registers, certification calendars, and audit-readiness documentation current and accessible.
  • Build Internal Compliance Capability: Brief and train internal teams on compliance requirements relevant to their functions; serve as the go-to resource on regulatory questions across the business

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 3-6 years in QC/QA/KCS experience in the rice industry is required
  • Education: A degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Agricultural Science, Law, or a related field is required.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Working knowledge of food safety, Vietnamese export regulatory environment & agricultural compliance frameworks: MRL standards, phytosanitary requirements, EUDR, Codex Alimentarius, etc.
  • Sustainability Standards: Exposure to sustainable certification schemes relevant to agriculture (SRP or similar) is a strong advantage.
  • Attention to Detail: Proven ability to manage complex, multi-jurisdictional regulatory requirements accurately and simultaneously.
  • Communication: Full professional proficiency in English and Vietnamese.
  • Analytical Thinking: Comfortable reading technical regulatory documents and extracting the commercial or operational implications.
  • Builder Mindset: Entrepreneurial attitude — you are comfortable building a compliance function from the ground up, not just maintaining an established one.
  • Mobility: Willingness to travel regularly across the Mekong Delta to conduct on-site QC inspections, oversee post-harvest compliance at milling and storage facilities, and verify that standards are being upheld at every stage of the supply chain
