Compliance Officer – Derelict Vessel Program
Marathon, FL (Monroe County) | Contract Position | Full-Time, Mon–Fri 8 am–5pm

About the Role
Griffiths Prince & Associates Consulting is seeking a Compliance Officer to support the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), Division of Law Enforcement, Boating and Waterways Section. This is a highly responsible, non-sworn position ensuring compliance and accurate case management for the Derelict Vessel (DV) Program within the Monroe, Miami-Dade, and Broward County region. The Compliance Officer reports directly to the Derelict Vessel Program Administrator in Tallahassee.

What You’ll Do

  • Review daily FWC officer activity on derelict vessel, at-risk, and public nuisance cases to ensure procedural accuracy and compliance
  • Audit and maintain accurate, up-to-date records in the DV Database; ensure officers meet program deadlines
  • Conduct regional training and compliance briefings on DV program requirements, laws, and procedures
  • Produce weekly county compliance reports and monthly at-risk violation reports for command staff and Tallahassee HQ
  • Serve as liaison between FWC, local government, contractors, and the public on DV removal efforts and the Vessel Turn-In Program
  • Assist local governments with DV Removal Authorization Letters and grant application compliance
  • Conduct site visits to DV removal operations to verify contractor compliance with program requirements
  • Attend weekly TEAMS meetings with the DV Program Administrator
  • Handle confidential and sensitive law enforcement information with strict discretion
  • Complete a required 1-week compliance training in Tallahassee after hire (travel and mileage reimbursed)

What You’ll Need

  • Associate’s degree or higher
  • 3+ years of professional related experience
  • Valid Florida driver’s license and a reliable personal vehicle (mileage reimbursed)
  • Ability to pass a Level II background investigation and fingerprinting
  • Strong Excel skills; proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Google Earth, and proprietary law enforcement software
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; fluent in English
  • Strong time management and multitasking abilities
  • Ability to work independently and handle confidential information with discretion
  • Professional, positive demeanor when representing FWC to officers, partner agencies, and the public

  • Occasional non-traditional hours may be required
