What we are looking for:
This role is based in our Athens office working in a small team advising and supporting fee-earners and support staff on a broad range of issues including but not limited to anti-money laundering, risk assessment issues, conflict checking, escrow arrangements and opening matter files. This is a critical function, and involves detailed analysis, research into companies, as well as advising and liaising with lawyers and staff across the firm.
What you’ll be doing:
- Reviewing and advising the fee earners on escrow arrangements from a compliance perspective.
- Reviewing new client and matter requests to ensure that all relevant information has been provided to satisfy our regulatory requirements and liaising with fee earners on obtaining any outstanding information.
- Analysing conflict check requests to identify any legal and commercial conflicts and, liaising with partners accordingly.
- Undertaking PEP, sanctions and background checks as required and advising fee earners how to navigate any results.
- Prompt escalation of high-risk matters or other areas of concern to the Senior Officer, Compliance Manager, Head of Risk and Compliance, and/or Director of Risk and Compliance whichever is appropriate.
- Running sanction screening.
- Reviewing and maintaining registers including process agency matters, gifts and hospitality, data protection, PEPs and Enhanced risk matters.
- Dealing with ad hoc queries and compliance projects as requested.
- Training the team or other colleagues.
Skills & qualifications:
- Knowledge and application of relevant legislation, regulations and law society/bar association guidance, but not limited to conflicts, financial crime prevention, sanctions, ethics and professional conduct.
- Experience of performing Conflict, CDD and sanctions checks on entities and individuals in a law firm.
- Experience of Escrow Arrangements (preferably obtained in a law firm).
- Knowledge of SRA rules including conflicts of interests and accounts rules.
- Law degree or other relevant qualification.
- Experience of using Intapp software products.
- MS Office skills.
- Experience of using AI tools, such as CoPilot or Legora
