The Company operates the high-grade San Albino gold mine in Nueva Segovia, Nicaragua, which ranks as one of the highest-grade open pit gold mines globally and offers district-scale exploration potential. Mako Mining Corp. also holds a 100% interest in the Eagle Mountain Project in Guyana, South America. Mako US Corp (a Mako Mining Corp. company) owns the Moss Mine, an open pit gold mine in Arizona, and also owns the Mt. Hamilton Mine, an open pit gold mine in Nevada. Mako US Corp is currently seeking a qualified person for the position of Compliance Manager – Corporate.

About this role – Compliance Manager – Corporate

The Compliance Manager – Corporate plays a critical role in ensuring adherence to legal standards and internal policies, developing compliance programs and procedures, and conducting audits to mitigate risks. This is a key leadership role reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, assisting with collaboration with all departmental managers on the compliance of each department.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor Compliance – Ensure that the company complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. This includes conducting regular audits and assessments to identify areas of risk and potential non-compliance
  • Develop Policies – Create, modify, and implement compliance policies and procedures to align with legal requirements and mining industry standards
  • Training & Education – Design and deliver training programs for employees to ensure consistent understanding of compliance requirements and the importance of adhering to them
  • Risk Management – Develop risk management strategies to address compliance-related issues and implement corrective actions when necessary
  • Regulatory Liaison – Acts as the primary contact for regulatory agencies, managing relationships and ensuring timely resolution of compliance issues
  • Reporting – Provide regular reports to senior management on the status of the compliance program and any identified issues or risks
  • Improvement – drive continuous improvement initiatives in compliance processes, documentation, and efficiency

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 5–7 years in compliance role, preferably in the mining industry, with a strong understanding of federal and state regulations
  • A safety certification such as MSHA is required, training will be provided by Mako US
  • Leadership, problem-solving, analytical thinking, project management, and strong communication abilities
  • Domestic and international travel is required, occasionally for extended periods
  • Strong analytical, communication, and teamwork abilities
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Valid passport is required for international travel
