About the Office
The primary mission of the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) is to adjudicate immigration cases by fairly, expeditiously, and uniformly interpreting and administering the Nation’s immigration laws. Under delegated authority from the Attorney General, EOIR conducts immigration court proceedings, appellate reviews, and administrative hearings.
The Office of the Chief Immigration Judge (OCIJ) is led by the Chief Immigration Judge, who establishes operating policies and oversees policy implementation for the immigration courts. OCIJ provides overall program direction and establishes priorities for approximately 700 immigration judges located in 71 immigration courts and 3 adjudications centers throughout the Nation.

Job Description
The law student volunteer position is an unpaid in-person internship position. The law student volunteer will work under the direct supervision of an Attorney Advisor and will be tasked with completing research and writing assignments. The law student volunteer is expected to produce timely and well-written work products throughout the course of the internship. The internship will provide the law student volunteer with opportunities to enhance the understanding of immigration law in the context of removal proceedings, as well as develop research, writing, and communication skills. The law student volunteer will also have opportunities to observe immigration court hearings.
Qualifications
Any United States citizen law student enrolled at least half-time and who has completed at least one semester of law school is eligible to apply.
Excellent research and writing skills, attention to detail, a desire to work as part of a team of professionals, and a commitment to fairness and integrity are essential.
Prior knowledge of immigration law is helpful but not necessary.

The law student volunteer must commit to working a minimum of twelve (12) hours per week.

Salary
