Job Summary
The Housing Research Specialist plays a critical role in assisting individuals and families in securing safe and affordable housing in Minnesota. This position involves working closely with clients to assess their housing needs, provide guidance on available resources, and facilitate access to housing programs. The Housing Research Specialist will collaborate with various stakeholders, including landlords, social service agencies, and community organizations, to ensure that clients receive comprehensive support throughout the housing process. Candidates must have either a Bachelor’s degree or 2+ years of experience in social services.
Duties
Conduct assessments of clients’ housing needs and develop personalized housing plans.
Provide information on available housing options, including Section 8 and Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) properties.
Assist clients in completing applications for housing assistance programs and ensure compliance with Fair Housing regulations.
Offer crisis intervention and management support to clients facing housing instability or emergencies.
Maintain accurate records of client interactions, housing placements, and follow-up services using software such as Yardi.
Collaborate with social workers and other professionals to coordinate services for clients, including addiction counseling when necessary.
Skills
Strong understanding of Fair Housing regulations and compliance requirements.
Experience with crisis intervention and management techniques to support clients in distressing situations.
Familiarity with addiction counseling principles is a plus for addressing the needs of specific populations.
Proficiency in using InSync or similar client management software for tracking client information and housing placements is a plus.
Knowledge of Section 8 housing programs and the application process is essential.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with clients and stakeholders.
Ability to employ motivational interviewing techniques to empower clients in their housing journey.
Background in social work or related fields is preferred to enhance client support services.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $24.00 – $26.00 per hour
