About This Role

This person is part of a dynamic team within the Department of Animal Sciences and Industry that is responsible for coordinating communications and marketing activities for recruitment, youth activities, extension, departmental communications and events and ASI personnel.

Job Duties And Responsibilities Are As Follows

Design, develop, and maintain departmental web pages and social media outlets.

Design, prepare, and edit media articles, press releases, newsletters, and other communications oriented toward external audiences with the emphasis on alumni and friends of the department.

Coordinate with college and university-level communication and marketing specialists regarding activities/needs related to video projects, photography, brochures, and publications.

Serve as a point of contact for the department’s social media outlets for the different disciplines within Animal Sciences and Industry.

Monitor deadlines on a daily basis to ensure projects are on schedule and manage all the expectations for each discipline

Respond in a timely and accurate manner to requests, updates and special projects, both verbally and in writing.

Provide support and perform other duties as assigned

About Us

The K-State Department of Animal Sciences and Industry (ASI) serves students, livestock producers and the animal and food industries through teaching, research and education. The Dept. of ASI prepares students for careers in the animal and food industries.

The curriculum includes the study of nutrition, reproduction, genetics, behavior, meat science and food science with production, management, and agribusiness skills. Students are given sound professional and scientific skills, a broad education and experience for contributing to our communities across the nation and abroad. Students receive excellent advisement and mentorship from faculty and professional staff and participate in extracurricular activities to develop skills to become industry leaders.

Minimum Qualifications

What You’ll Need to Succeed

Bachelor’s degree

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in agricultural communications, journalism, or other communications related field

Master’s degree in communications related field

Excellent command of desktop publishing software, Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and PremierPro), social media, web design and web maintenance software are required.

Efficient in video software Camtasia or Adobe Premier; web editing software such as Dreamweaver or CMS, and Xcelsius.

Demonstrated proficiency in the development of written promotional materials, editing, newsletter, publishing, and converting technical information into publications directed toward lay audiences.

Excellent communications skills

Event planning, photography, videography, and web analytic skills are beneficial

Other Requirements

Must have a valid Driver’s License
