The Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) is an armed police service that’s dedicated to the nuclear industry. The Commercial Officer will be responsible for overseeing and managing the lifecycle of procurements and contracts within CNC, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and achieving value for money.

The Commercial Officer’s principal focus is to help stakeholders to realise their needs in a timely and compliant manner through providing advice and support. This role involves coordinating with various stakeholders, including suppliers, internal departments and external agencies, to ensure that contracts are executed effectively and deliver the intended outcomes.

The position supports continuous improvement with the Commercial Specialists of the Constabulary’s commercial terms and conditions, policies and service level agreements in a wide variety of contractual areas. This will include the monitoring and compliance of both contractors and Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) staff.

Skills And Experience

  • Degree Qualification with a minimum 2:2 in a subject with a clear link to Supply Chain/Commercial Operations or Business.
  • Actively studying towards Membership of the Chartered Institute of Procurement (MCIPS) Professional Qualification or a keen interest in studying.
  • An understanding of commercial terms, conditions, procurement legislation, and relevant regulations.
  • Ability to understand and deal with procurement issues relevant to the Public Sector and Cabinet Office initiatives.
  • Experience managing suppliers, managing and escalating issues, and engaging in key decisions.
  • Analytical Skills: Proficient in analysing terms, financial data, and performance metrics to make informed decisions.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous in reviewing documents to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to clearly convey information and expectations.
  • Financial Acumen: Ability to understand financial aspects of contracts/procurements, including budgeting, cost control, savings and efficiencies.
  • Experience of successfully negotiating and managing contracts with a working understanding of contract law and Procurement legislation.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain effective working relationships with diverse teams and stakeholders.

This role has been assessed as suitable for hybrid working with a 60% / 40% split, which will be discussed and agreed with the successful individual.

Please note that this role will initially be based at our HQ Culham until our relocation to Harwell in Autumn 2026 and the role thereafter will be based at Harwell.
