Paralegal/ Legal Assistant
Job Summary:
The Bankruptcy Paralegal is responsible for supporting attorneys in the preparation, filing, and management of consumer and/or business bankruptcy cases, primarily under Chapters 7, 11, and 13. The paralegal will work closely with clients, courts, and trustees to ensure that all necessary documentation is complete and deadlines are met in accordance with bankruptcy law and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and file bankruptcy petitions, schedules, statements of financial affairs, and other related documents using bankruptcy software (e.g., Best Case, CINcompass).
Conduct client intake and gather necessary documentation (e.g., income, assets, debts).
Maintain accurate and organized case files, both electronic and paper.
Communicate with clients to explain bankruptcy process, answer procedural questions, and ensure compliance with filing requirements.
Review court dockets and monitor deadlines for hearings, reaffirmation agreements, trustee meetings, and plan payments.
Coordinate with bankruptcy trustees, court personnel, creditors, and opposing counsel as needed.
Draft motions, notices, and other legal documents under the supervision of an attorney.
Assist attorneys in preparing for 341 meetings, hearings, and confirmation proceedings.
Perform legal research related to bankruptcy rules and local court procedures.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in handling sensitive financial and legal information.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $35,000.00 – $55,000.00 per year
