Commercial Litigation Associate (DEFENSE) Jobs in United States at Medicus

We are a growing family law firm built on the belief that every client deserves both skilled legal advocacy and compassionate support. Founded by an attorney who began her career as a paralegal, our practice is rooted in resilience, client empathy, and a deep understanding of the legal system from the ground up. We focus on family law and estate planning, helping clients navigate divorce, custody, property division, enforcement, and support matters with personalized, strategic care.

As we continue to grow, we’re seeking a Senior Paralegal who can step into a highly trusted and impactful role within our legal team. This person will be the steady hand guiding complex family law cases from intake to final order—drafting key documents, coordinating deadlines, supporting trial prep, and communicating with clients every step of the way.

In this role, you will be the attorney’s right hand and a pillar of support for clients—someone who brings clarity to chaos, keeps cases moving forward, and allows the lead attorney to focus on strategy and business growth.

What you’ll do:

Case Management: Manage the full lifecycle of each case—from client intake through final resolution—by managing and tracking deadlines for filings, hearings, and discovery; anticipating next steps; and proactively resolving issues before they become problems. Ensure all tasks are completed on time, bottlenecks are avoided, and nothing is overlooked by maintaining forward insight and keeping cases in continuous motion.
Coordination & Communication: Act as the primary liaison for all communications, ensuring timely and accurate exchanges between clients, counsel, court staff, and third parties to maintain clarity and continuity across all matters.
Client Engagement & Support: Foster strong client relationships by providing compassionate, attentive support, while maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information with care—ensuring clients feel understood, respected, and cared for throughout every stage of their case.
File Maintenance & Organization: Maintain comprehensive, well-organized case files by ensuring all documentation is complete, accurate, up-to-date, easily accessible to the legal team, and handled with strict confidentiality at every stage of the case.
Document Drafting: Prepare pleadings, motions, discovery requests, responses, and other legal documents with precision and attention to detail.
Discovery & Disclosures: Coordinate and manage the production of documents and required disclosures, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery in compliance with procedural requirements.
Legal Research & Analysis: Conduct in-depth research and analysis on family law issues to support case strategy, strengthen legal arguments, and provide attorneys with timely, relevant insights.
Legal & Litigation Support: Support attorneys in preparing for and attending hearings, mediations, trials, and client meetings by organizing exhibits, coordinating witnesses, and ensuring all materials are complete, accessible, and aligned with case strategy.
Client Communication: Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, providing updates, answering inquiries, and offering compassionate support throughout their legal journey.

What we’re looking for:

Experience & Expertise: Experience in Family law, including deep knowledge of case progression for divorce, custody, enforcement, and modification matters. Must have a solid understanding of the Texas Family Code and local court rules, along with hands-on experience supporting mediation and trial preparation, including drafting pleadings, motions, and orders.
Education & Certification: Associate’s degree or Paralegal Certificate required; Bachelor’s degree preferred. Completion of an accredited paralegal program is a plus but not required.
Strategic Case Insight: Strong understanding of how family law cases progress, with the ability to anticipate next steps, and approach each case with a big-picture, forward-thinking mindset.
Technical Proficiency: Proficient in legal software and case management tools (e.g., MyCase, Form Builder or similar), with hands-on experience in Texas e-filing procedures.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong focus on client service and professionalism. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is a plus, but not required.
Organization & Task Management: Demonstrated ability to stay highly organized while managing multiple priorities, tasks, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment with accuracy and efficiency.
Independence & Collaboration: Self-starter with the ability to work independently while also contributing effectively in a collaborative team environment; takes initiative and ownership of responsibilities without requiring constant direction.
Problem-Solving Skills: Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying issues, offering solutions, and keeping cases moving forward.
Confidentiality: Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information with discretion.

Why you should work here:

Mission-Driven Work: Be part of a firm that helps people through life-changing moments with empathy, advocacy, and personalized care.
Strong Leadership & Mentorship: Work with a managing attorney who understands your role deeply—someone who started as a paralegal herself and values the skill and insight experienced legal professionals bring to the table.
Collaborative & Supportive Work Environment: Enjoy a laid-back, low-drama atmosphere where colleagues respect each other, collaborate closely, and genuinely want to see one another succeed.
Work That Challenges You—Not Drains You: Be trusted to work independently while being supported by a team that values your time, judgment, and autonomy.

Additional perks:

Paid Time Off: Employees receive both vacation and sick leave to help maintain a healthy work-life balance.
Health Reimbursement: A monthly reimbursement is provided to assist with health care expenses.
Disability Coverage: Disability insurance is available at no cost to employees.

Joining our team means stepping into a role where your expertise is valued, your voice is heard, and your contributions truly matter. As a Senior Paralegal, you won’t just be supporting cases—you’ll be shaping outcomes and helping families through some of the most important transitions of their lives.
