The Jonus Group is a specialized insurance staffing firm that connects top talent with industry-leading clients. We are seeking an experienced Claims Counsel to join our client’s team. The Claims Counsel is responsible for managing and resolving complex legal claims while providing strategic advice on claim handling, litigation management, and risk mitigation. This role involves working closely with internal claims professionals, external counsel, and other stakeholders to ensure effective resolution of claims while protecting the company’s legal and financial interests.
Responsibilities
Analyze and assess legal claims, including liability, coverage issues, and potential exposure.
Provide legal advice and guidance on claim resolution strategies.
Oversee claims litigation, including selecting and managing external counsel.
Evaluate settlement opportunities and may participate in negotiations.
Develop and implement litigation strategies to minimize financial and reputational risks.
Monitor case progress, deadlines, and procedural requirements.
Review pleadings, motions, and settlement agreements.
Represent the company in mediations, depositions, and court proceedings when necessary.
Requirements
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
Required
Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Active license to practice law in Georgia or Florida
Must have 3+ years of experience as an attorney, including civil jury trial experience and be capable of handling cases of moderate exposure with minimum supervision.
Preferred
3+ years’ experience in defense of first-party litigation
Able to work independently or with a team with strong attention to detail along with the ability to organize and prioritize workload
Ability to identify risk with strong understanding of all applicable ethical duties
Strong negotiation skills
Compensation
$150,000-$200,000/year based on experience
Quarterly bonus
