Claims Advocate/Legal Assistant – VA Disability Department Jobs in Remote at Hill and Ponton, P.A.
Job Summary: We seek an experienced and dynamic Social Security Disability Lead Attorney to lead and oversee our legal team dedicated to Social Security Disability (SSD) cases. The Lead Attorney will be responsible for the day-to-day legal operations, ensuring legal compliance, and managing case development and delivery from start to finish. In addition, the Lead Attorney will supervise and mentor Hearing Attorneys to ensure that all cases are handled efficiently, ethically, and in compliance with Social Security Administration (SSA) regulations.
The candidate must be in the DFW area and willing to work in the office two to three times a week.
Key Responsibilities:
Day-to-Day Legal Operations:
Ensure compliance with Social Security Administration guidelines, state and federal regulations, and legal best practices.
Handle complex and high-priority cases, providing strategic advice and direction on case development.
Review and approve legal filings, briefs, and other documents related to SSD cases.
Legal Compliance:
Stay current on changes to Social Security Disability laws, regulations, and policies to ensure firm practices remain compliant.
Develop and implement internal procedures to maintain compliance with SSA standards and timelines.
Advise on and implement risk management strategies to avoid potential legal issues.
Supervision and Leadership:
Oversee and manage a team of Hearing Attorneys, providing mentorship, guidance, and training as necessary.
Monitor the quality and consistency of legal representation provided by Hearing Attorneys.
Conduct regular performance evaluations of Hearing Attorneys and provide feedback for professional development.
Foster a collaborative and efficient team environment, encouraging sharing best practices and strategies.
Client Relations:
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients with complex or high-stakes cases.
Ensure that clients are regularly updated on the status of their cases and that their concerns are addressed promptly.
Provide legal guidance and counseling to clients regarding their SSD benefits and eligibility.
Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in Social Security Disability law, including experience in case development, hearing preparation, and legal compliance.
At least 2 years of experience managing a team of attorneys, including supervising and mentoring junior attorneys.
Strong knowledge of Social Security Disability laws, policies, and procedures.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Proven ability to manage multiple cases and projects simultaneously, maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating leadership and collaboration.
Compassionate and client-focused, with a commitment to achieving favorable outcomes for clients.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Social Security Disability appeals and hearings.
Prior experience in a leadership role within a legal environment.
