Essential Job Functions:
The District Court Constable is an official representative of the court. This position is responsible for posting rents/warrants on each property address where a case is filed. Signs off on all rents and warrants filed. Schedules and preforms evictions for properties in the area. Serves writ of summons cases for Baltimore County.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Receive rents and warrants (e-file) and manual cases. Sign off on all rents and warrants once posted and/or evicted/canceled.
Travel to properties and post rents on the front door.
Set eviction dates and times with landlords. Answer calls and questions.
Travel to property to initiate eviction.
Serve writ of summons on all types of civil and landlord/tenant cases.
Maintain all rents and warrants in an organized manner and return to clerks.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma (or GED equivalent).
Experience:
At least one (1) year of work experience, preferably in court operations, or in the fields of criminal justice, Parole and Probation, legal or financial services.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment
Knowledge of alpha and numerical filing system
Knowledge of basic legal terminology and able to communicate effectively using such with court personnel and ancillary agencies.
Knowledge of standard legal forms and documents used in the Maryland District Courts.
Skill in remaining calm and professional in stressful and/or volatile situations.
Skill in organization and prioritizing daily duties.
Ability to operate a personal computer.
Ability to communicate effectively with the public and provide information in a polite and efficient manner both in person and on the phone.
Ability to maintain and use a detailed filing system.
Ability to verify scanned documents from other co-workers.
Ability to exercise tact and understanding in pressured situations.
Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
Physical Requirements:
Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
Equipment, Machinery and Tools:
Personal computer, scanner, xerox machine, mail machine, envelope stuffer, and telephone. These tools are used to process the daily filings submitted to the court and to communicate with the general public, attorneys and other agency representatives.
Software and Computer Skills:
Microsoft Suites, Odyssey, personal computer knowledge
