Through direct legal services, strategic advocacy, and cross-border collaboration, AFSI empowers vulnerable families navigating complex legal and social systems, including immigration, child welfare, and family reunification processes.
Position Summary:
AFSI seeks a mission-driven Deputy Legal Director to support and strengthen its legal program. The Deputy Legal Director will work closely with the Legal Director to oversee legal strategy, supervise staff attorneys and legal advocates, and ensure the delivery of high-quality legal services to clients. This leadership position requires a strategic thinker with deep legal experience, strong management skills, and a commitment to social justice and family integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Leadership & Strategy
Assist the Legal Director in setting and implementing legal priorities and strategies aligned with AFSI’s mission and client needs.
Provide leadership in litigation, legal policy advocacy, and impact strategies.
Collaborate across departments to integrate legal services with social support programs.
Supervision & Staff Development
Supervise and mentor attorneys, legal assistants, and fellows, fostering a culture of excellence, compassion, and collaboration.
Support staff with case strategy, legal research, and litigation planning.
Oversee onboarding, training, and professional development opportunities for legal team members.
Legal Services Oversight
Monitor quality and efficiency of legal services to ensure compliance with ethical, legal, and organizational standards.
Support complex legal casework and high-profile litigation as needed.
Ensure trauma-informed and culturally competent legal practices.
Partnerships & External Engagement
Represent AFSI in coalitions, task forces, and public events to advance systemic change and amplify client voices.
Build relationships with legal aid partners, government agencies, and advocacy organizations.
Operational Management
Contribute to budget planning, grant reporting, and data tracking related to the legal program.
Assist in developing internal protocols and systems for case management, confidentiality, and staff safety.

Pay: $110,270.00 – $122,449.00 per year
