Job Summary
We are seeking Certified Court Reporters to provide Grand Jury and/or Deposition Court Reporting Services for the United States Attorney’s Office (USAO), Western District of Oklahoma. This is a 1099 independent contractor opportunity with work anticipated to begin on July 1, 2025.
This role requires professionalism, confidentiality, and accuracy in high-stakes federal legal environments.
Work Locations:
Western District of Oklahoma Federal Courthouse
Depositions vary by case; primarily within Oklahoma City area
This is a 1099 contract role—not an employee position. Court reporters will work as independent contractors and are responsible for their own taxes and benefits.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver real-time court reporting with simultaneous translation within five (5) seconds of stenotype input.
Accurately transcribe five (5) minutes of professionally audio-recorded dictation at 180–200 words per minute, with 96% accuracy or higher.
Ensure transcription meets required legal formatting and federal confidentiality standards.
Maintain and manage your own equipment/software required for the job.
Prepare certified transcripts in required formats and turnaround times (Regular, Expedited, Daily).
Travel to deposition locations as assigned (locations vary by witness).
Adhere to federal confidentiality standards and secure handling of all records and documents.
Minimum Requirements:
Certified shorthand reporter or court reporter license (Oklahoma certification preferred).
Experience in legal transcription, preferably federal court proceedings.
Ability to provide own reporting equipment, software, and secure storage.
Reliable transportation and punctuality required.
Availability to work at courthouse and off-site deposition locations within the Western District of Oklahoma.
Must pass background check and federal security clearance requirements.
Additional Details:
This is not a federal employment position; contractors remain 1099s of our agency.
Work location may vary between remote and in-person based on specific call orders.
Rate sheet will be shared during the selection process.
Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
Proficient with stenotype and real-time translation software
Ability to pass required background investigation (Category B3 for U.S. Citizens / Category C for Foreign Nationals)

Due to work being performed in a restricted federal area:
Individuals currently imprisoned or who have been convicted of a felony by any U.S. federal or state court (including territories) are prohibited from employment under this contract.
Security and Background Requirements:
Work is performed within controlled/restricted federal areas
Background investigation and clearance are required before work begins
