The City of Brockville is seeking a Bylaw Enforcement Office to join our Economic & Development Services team. Reporting to the Supervisor of By-Law Services, this role ensures that municipal bylaws are respected and enforced to protect the health, safety and quality of life of our residents.
This position involves education, investigation, and enforcement of municipal bylaws, including property standards, noise, parking, licensing, smoking, animal control and others as enacted by Council. This position is part of the CUPE Local 115 (Inside) Bargaining Unit.
What You’ll Do
- Investigate complaints and ensure compliance with municipal by‑laws and applicable legislation.
- Educate the public with tact and professionalism while using sound judgment in enforcement decisions.
- Issue warnings, infraction notices, or orders under the Provincial Offences Act.
- Prepare reports, maintain accurate records, and gather evidence for hearings and prosecutions.
- Apprehend domestic animals running at large and deliver them to the pound.
- Act as an ambassador for the City by providing clear information to residents and promoting good public relations.
- Respond after hours on occasion to urgent calls.
What You Bring
- Two‑year College Diploma in Police Foundations, Law and Security, or related field.
- Minimum 1 year of municipal by‑law enforcement experience.
- Knowledge of the Provincial Offences Act, legal processes, and applicable laws.
- Strong judgment, discretion, and conflict‑resolution skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive situations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and database software.
- Valid Class G driver’s licence and reliable vehicle.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and adapt in a fast‑paced environment.
- Professional, ethical approach to representing the City with confidence and consistency.
