Overview
Bilingual (Spanish/English) Paralegal – Immigration, Criminal Defense & Family Law Jobs in Omaha, NE at Attorney Office
About the Firm
We are a solo law practice in downtown Omaha focused on immigration law, criminal defense, and family law. We represent clients before the Omaha Immigration Court, the Board of Immigration Appeals, USCIS, and Nebraska and Iowa state courts. Many of our clients are Spanish-speaking, and much of our work sits at the intersection of immigration and criminal law, where careful, detail-oriented case preparation directly affects people’s lives and families.
We are a small, close-knit office. The right candidate will work directly with the attorney, take real ownership of cases, and see matters through from intake to resolution.
The Role
We are hiring a bilingual paralegal who has already worked in a solo or small-firm setting (or a legal nonprofit) and understands what that environment demands: wearing multiple hats, managing competing deadlines, and communicating directly with clients in Spanish and English without a layer of supervisors in between.
What You’ll Do
- Conduct client intake and follow-up interviews in Spanish and English
- Prepare and assemble immigration filings, including asylum, cancellation of removal, family-based petitions, adjustment of status, VAWA, SIJS, and waivers
- Draft supporting declarations, cover letters, and evidence indexes for USCIS and Immigration Court submissions
- Assist with criminal defense case preparation: discovery review, client communication, and organizing exhibits and witness information
- Prepare family law pleadings and forms, including divorce, child custody, child support, and modification filings
- Translate and interpret for client meetings, document review, and witness preparation; prepare certified translations as needed
- Track deadlines across Immigration Court, USCIS, state district and county courts, and juvenile court calendars
- Manage client files and case management software; maintain organized, audit-ready records
- Communicate with courts, opposing counsel, agencies, and clients by phone, email, and in person
- Assist with billing, trust accounting entries, and general office administration as needed

Experience matters most. We will weigh hands-on experience above credentials.

- Prior paralegal or legal assistant experience in a solo practice, small firm, or nonprofit legal organization
- Direct experience in at least two of the following: immigration law, criminal defense, family law (divorce and child custody)
- Working knowledge of USCIS forms and filing procedures and/or Immigration Court practice
- Strong writing skills in both languages, with attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines independently and communicate proactively about case status
- Professional discretion and respect for client confidentiality
Preferred (but not required):
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree
- Paralegal certificate or completion of an ABA-approved paralegal program
- Experience with Nebraska and/or Iowa state court e-filing
- Familiarity with immigration case management software

Compensation and Benefits
- $19 – $25 per hour to start, based on experience
- Annual compensation review, with raises tied to demonstrated skill, reliability, and growth in responsibility
- Paid time off
- Downtown parking paid for by the firm
- Direct mentorship and substantive work across three practice areas
- This position does not include health insurance or retirement benefits
Schedule
- Monday through Friday, full-time hours
- Saturdays, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
- Occasional flexibility around court deadlines
