Position: Bailiff- Marion Superior Court Major Felony Division
Position Summary
Marion Superior Court is accepting applications for a bailiff. This is a full-time position .
Duties
involve a variety of tasks involving the management of a major felony criminal court docket. **
This is not a security position.
** Pay listed is starting pay with no applicable experience. Will increase with applicable experience.
Position Responsibilities
Assists with conducting in-person and remote court sessions including real-time case updating.
Updates and processes electronically filed motions and pleadings through the Court’s on-line case management system.
Responds to inquiries from court representatives, the Clerk’s office, attorneys, parties, and the public.
Manages and assists jurors during jury trials.
Assists with other duties and responsibilities associated with the effective management of major felony criminal cases as needed.
Qualifications
Bailiffs have a variety of in-court and out-of-court responsibilities. The bailiff reviews all assigned matters filed in criminal cases, distributes work to the judicial officers, processes judicial orders, updates the chronological case summary for individual cases, and fields phone and email inquiries from litigants, lawyers, interested parties and other government agencies. In addition, the bailiff will attend and assist the judge during court hearings and assist jurors during trials.
New hires will receive
paid training
of approximately two weeks before starting work on case files.
A minimum of a high school diploma or HSE is required. Knowledge and understanding of legal terminology and criminal procedures preferred. Strong proven computer skills, including typing skills, are required.

and organizational skills are essential, as is strong
attention to detail
.
Must have the ability to effectively interact with
diverse
groups of individuals.
Salary is based on applicable experience. Bailiffs work a 37.5-hour week. Full benefits are available including PERF.
Bilingual skills in Spanish, Burmese, or Haitian Creole are beneficial, with a bilingual salary enhancement available. Salary enhancements for an associate degree or bachelor’s degree are also available.
Marion County residency required within six months of date of hire.
