Essential Job Functions:
This is an entry-level clerical position, performing civil litigation case processing duties and responsibilities daily. The Judiciary Clerk provides the public and attorneys with information regarding case statuses and court procedures. This is specialized clerical work that follows clearly established guidelines and procedures.
Enter civil correspondence received. Process over the counter and electronic filings received daily, such as: motions, requests, change of address, intentions to defend, service, setting trial/hearing dates, etc. Review incoming correspondence for accuracy. Time-stamp filings as received over the counter. Work will include, but not limited to, service, new suits, pre-trial, post-judgment, landlord/tenant, domestic violence cases and front counter coverage.
Greet and assist customers and attorneys by telephone or in person at the counter, advising them of procedures and providing general information.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma (or GED equivalent).
Experience: One (1) year of work experience, preferably in court operations or in the fields of criminal justice, parole and probation, legal or financial services.
Note:
A Bachelor?s Degree may substitute the required work experience.
A Paralegal/Associates Degree or 60 college credits may substitute the required work experience.
A Paralegal Certificate may substitute the required work experience.
Knowledge:
General office practices, procedures, and equipment.
Standard legal forms and documents used in the Judiciary.
Basic English and arithmetic to include, but not limited to, spelling, punctuation, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Skill in:
Customer service and handling problems tactfully and patiently.
Typing on a personal computer.
Accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to:
Use standard office and business equipment including, but not limited to, personal computers, word processing, spreadsheets, database software, copier, cash register, scanner, fax machine, etc.
Maintain and use detailed filing system.
Communicate clearly, tactfully, and effectively with judges, the public, police agencies, attorneys, and other court officials and personnel, both verbally and in writing.
Understand and abide by departmental rules, regulations, and procedures.
Exercise tact, diplomacy, and impartiality in dealing with the public, law enforcement personnel, and attorneys.
Interpret and follow procedures, verbal and written complex instructions, and protocols for any given assignment.
Use proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
Exercise independent judgement in interpreting and applying appropriate policy, procedure, rule, law, and/or regulation to a situation.
Exercise fact and understanding in stressful situations.
Perform all essential functions of the position.
Physical Requirements:
Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.

Personal Computer, telephone, scanner, fax machine, printer, calculator, and copier.
Software and Computer Skills:
Odyssey Navigator, Outlook, Microsoft Applications, CONNECT, File & Serve, and Adobe Suite
