Overview:
GitHub has an immediate opening for an experienced employment attorney to join the Corporate External & Legal Affairs leadership team, to work on cutting-edge employment law issues and forward looking employment law scenarios, in support of its dynamic and creative Human Resources Department and senior business leaders.
This role will act as the primary employment law contact for our Human Resource clients and business leaders. This work includes advice and counsel on the full range of employment law issues for an independently operating company.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate and partner effectively across teams to provide strong client service in an exceptionally high volume and fast-paced environment.
Identify opportunities and champion solutions to use technology (including AI) to drive productivity gains and make the job more rewarding.
Advise on complex/sensitive employment matters and help resolve through pre-dispute resolution.
Provide advice and counsel on global labor and employment framework, handbooks, and practices, develop and implement policies and procedures ensuring HR compliance is met in both the US and internationally.
Provide employment law advice regarding and directing internal investigations.
Work with outside counsel to support all aspects of employment in international jurisdictions.
Identify and anticipate employment law risk in the client’s business, technology and/or public policy, and propose solutions to mitigate future risk.
Inform the business of relevant new employment laws, best practices, and regulations that may have direct implications for GitHub.
Engage proactively to drive compliance and implement risk-mitigating strategies.
Identify and engage appropriate stakeholders to escalate issues, using written and oral communications skills to articulate recommendations and provide options on complex legal issues.
Serve as a contributor to clients and colleagues about legal and related employment law matters. This work includes:
Developing and reviewing written HR policies, guidelines and processes, templates, intranet sites, and training materials;
Developing and delivering legal training for HR generalists, and company managers.
Understand opportunities to leverage best practices from our parent company.
Manage outside counsel and respond to administrative charges, complaints, attorney’s letters, settlement demands and claims globally.
Negotiate appropriate resolutions to claims and other pending matters.
Supporting a global workforce.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
Juris Doctor AND 8+ years experience as a practicing attorney
OR international equivalent degree AND 8+ years experience as a practicing attorney
OR completion of a legal apprenticeship AND 8+ years experience as a practicing attorney
OR equivalent practice of law.
Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction.
Experience advising clients on employment and labor law matters, including discrimination, retaliation, wrongful termination, wage and hour, ADA/FMLA, noncompete/trade secrets and breach of contract.
Experience litigating employment law matters in state and federal court.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with GitHub platform and knowledge of developer ecosystem.
Experience responding to demand letters and/or agency charges.
Experience using technology and/or advising technology clients.
Law firm experience or in-house counsel experience.
Working knowledge of European employment law.
Experience working with a parent subsidiary relationship.
Compensation Range: The base salary range for this job is USD $113,800.00 – USD $302,000.00 /Yr.
These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States. An individual’s base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant. At GitHub certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role.
