The Office of State Courts Administrator is recruiting to fill an Associate Legal Counsel and Units Supervisor position to perform highly responsible professional legal counsel work researching and analyzing a wide range of court related matters and providing technical and administrative assistance to judges and court clerks in order to improve the administration and operation of the courts.
- Performs supervisory activities which include: establishing expectations, evaluating work, coaching and training staff, conducting staff performance evaluations, and participating in the hiring and disciplining of staff
- Provides professional advice to subordinates in the resolution of difficult concerns
- Prepares written reports and makes oral presentations to various committees of judges and clerks assigned by the Supreme Court
- Provides professional legal work featuring difficult legal/factual questions and provides recommendations to judges and court staff regarding procedural questions
- Staffs the Committee on Access to Family Court and other court committees
- Directs and coordinates activities involving access to courts in the judiciary
- Proposes policies and procedures and develops education in order to ensure access in the administration and operation of the courts
- Coordinates the efforts of the Committee on Language Access
- Supervises the contracts and procurement process and bids contracts for use by OSCA and the courts
Minimum Qualifications
A Juris Doctorate and current license to practice law in the State of Missouri is required. Two years of professional experience is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Considerable knowledge of general law, state laws, established precedent, and sources of legal references
- Considerable knowledge of court procedures and rules of evidence
- Considerable knowledge of access to court law, practices, efforts and trends, particularly regarding court settings
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with judges, court personnel, co-workers, subordinate staff, and staff from other agencies
- Considerable knowledge of state and federal laws, rules and regulations governing procurement
- Ability to provide leadership, supervision, and training to professional, technical and related program staff
- Ability to delegate, direct and evaluate work of staff, and provide effective feedback
