What We Do

Associate Claims Counsel are attorneys responsible for investigating and handling claims to resolution. They report to the Claims Center Director or the Regional Claims Manager if in a satellite office.

Essential Functions

Investigate, evaluate, determine loss and defense coverage liability, and resolve claims.

Establish settlement and expense reserves.

Determine need to retain outside counsel.

Manage claims and/or litigation through to final resolution.

Negotiate with claimant / opposing counsel / third parties for resolution.

Attend mediations and other court appearances / processes as required.

Review and approve invoices for costs and attorneys’ fees.

Perform or assist with initial evaluation for recovery.

Job Complexities

Assignments are broad, requiring originality and ingenuity. Has significant latitude for unreviewed actions or decisions. Acts in an advisory capacity, making recommendations with important organizational impact.

Supervision

Works under broad supervision; work is reviewed for sound judgment and accuracy.

No responsibility for supervising others.

Knowledge and Skills/Technology

Knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of the field.

Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.

Qualifications

Law Degree required.

Admitted to practice law in the US.

Typically 2-4 years of professional experience in title insurance / underwriting and claims resolution.

Licensed to practice law in good standing.

The pay range for this role is $82,925.00 – $. This is an estimate; actual pay depends on various factors including knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
