A law firm seeks an associate attorney to join their team in Jackson Heights, NY. This role offers a dynamic opportunity to represent clients in immigration, family, and criminal court hearings, both in-person and virtually. The ideal candidate will work closely with clients, paralegals, and supervising attorneys to ensure timely case preparation and document filing. While prior experience is preferred, candidates with a strong desire to learn and grow within these areas of law will be considered.
Duties:
Represent clients in immigration, family, and criminal court hearings, both in-person and virtually
Meet with clients to discuss case details and prepare for hearings
Collaborate with paralegals and supervising attorneys to ensure efficient case preparation and document filing
File court documents using electronic filing systems such as eService, NYSCEF, and ECAS
Handle various administrative duties related to case management and court filings
Travel to various court locations, including Newark Immigration Court and courts within the New York City boroughs, as required
Maintain effective communication with clients throughout the case process
Requirements:
Admission to the New York State Bar, in good standing
Spanish-speaking skills are strongly preferred but not required
Ability to travel for court hearings within the New York City area and beyond
Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple cases and meet tight deadlines
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in legal filings
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Certifications:
Active membership in the New York State Bar, in good standing
Skills:
Proficiency in electronic filing systems such as eService, NYSCEF, and ECAS
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage various tasks simultaneously
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
A proactive and client-focused approach to legal representation
Hands-on experience in diverse areas of law, including immigration, family, and criminal law
