About the Opportunity:
We’re seeking an ambitious, entrepreneurial California attorney in the first two years of practice who wants substantially more responsibility than a traditional law firm associate position.
This is a rare opportunity to work directly with the CEO, serving as the company’s primary junior attorney while helping build an in-house legal function from the ground up. You’ll work on active litigation, legal strategy, corporate matters, and high-impact legal initiatives that directly influence the company’s growth.
Unlike a traditional associate role, you’ll have meaningful ownership of cases from day one rather than spending years supporting senior associates or performing document review. You’ll also collaborate with experienced outside counsel and specialized law firms retained by the company on complex matters. Depending on the matter, you’ll have the opportunity to work alongside experienced litigators across multiple practice areas while remaining actively involved in strategy, drafting, and execution.

You’ll work across a broad range of legal matters, including:
● Civil litigation

● Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)
● California Consumer Credit Reporting Agencies Act (CCRAA)
● Consumer protection litigation
● Contract drafting and disputes

● Discovery
● Settlement negotiations
● Strategic legal research and litigation support
As the company grows, you’ll have the opportunity to expand into additional practice areas and help shape the long-term direction of the company’s legal function.
Responsibilities:
● Prepare comprehensive litigation memoranda, legal research memoranda, case strategy
analyses, and legal briefs
● Assemble and analyze case law, statutes, regulations, and supporting legal authority
● Draft complaints, answers, motions, pleadings, and other court filings
● Conduct legal research and provide practical legal recommendations
● Manage litigation matters from intake through resolution
● Prepare and respond to discovery
● Draft demand letters, settlement agreements, and other legal documents
● Communicate with opposing counsel
● Coordinate with outside counsel and specialty law firms on complex litigation matters
● Support corporate governance, commercial legal matters, and regulatory issues
● Assist with hearings, court filings, negotiations, and litigation strategy
● Develop internal legal systems, templates, SOPs, and knowledge resources
● Provide practical legal guidance to executive leadership
Qualifications:
● Active California Bar license in good standing
● 0–2 years of legal experience
● Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills
● Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational abilities
● Entrepreneurial mindset with a desire to build something meaningful
● Interest in litigation, business law, corporate law, and strategic problem-solving
● Comfortable working independently while managing multiple active matters
● Highly resourceful, self-motivated, and eager to learn
Why This Role Is Different:
This is not a traditional associate position.
You’ll work directly with the CEO on litigation strategy, business decisions, and legal operations while collaborating with experienced outside litigators and specialty law firms on complex matters. You’ll receive meaningful responsibility from the beginning, gain practical experience across multiple areas of law, and develop significantly faster than in a traditional large-firm environment.
