Unique, full-time opportunity for an experienced Associate Attorney to jump start to an equity ownership position with the Firm.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Base salary – $100,000+ depending on experience, plus annual bonus based on personal performance and firm profitability

We are seeking a highly motivated and meticulous associate attorney with 5+ years of hands-on legal experience in a general practice law firm representing clients in Wills, Trusts, and Estate Planning and Administration, Corporate and Labor and Employment matters. The ideal candidate will be an experienced associate attorney, who has been exposed to multiple legal practice areas and is a self-starter, capable of multi-tasking, and handling sophisticated clients and legal matters in a team environment. Excellent interpersonal communication, analytical, legal research and writing skills and passion to assist clients navigate complex legal issues are required. Significant Wills, Trusts and Estates Planning and Administration and Corporate experience are required. Labor and Employment Discrimination, Real Estate, Trademark and Litigation background and some portable clientele are all a plus. This position is a fast track to an equity position for the right person, burnt out by Big Law, to work in an established law firm located in the Historic District in Canandaigua, New York, with business and individual clients in the Greater Rochester Area and in the Finger Lakes.
General Qualifications and Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the NYS bar in good standing
- 5+ years of significant legal experience in the desired practice areas
- Strong, legal analytical, research, negotiation, writing, and verbal advocacy skills
- Excellent judgment, interpersonal communication and client relations skills
- Ability to manage multiple clients and cases and deadlines effectively
- Ability to thrive both independently and in a team setting, working collaboratively with paralegals and senior attorneys effectively
- High ethical standards, professional integrity and commitment to legal excellence and client service.
- Ability to conduct complex legal research and to stay current with changes in applicable law
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Adobe Pro, Clio, Lexis+ AI and Protégé software programs
Wills, Estates and Trusts Legal Practice Requirements:
- Experience meeting with clients and advising on estate planning strategies and tax implications
- Experience drafting Wills, Trusts, ILITs, QPRTs SCINs, POAs, Health Care Proxies and Living Wills, and other estate planning documents
- Ability to probate and administer estates and trusts, including Will contests
- Experience conducting Will ceremonies and appearing in Surrogates Court as required
Business Legal Practice Requirements:
- Experience advising business clients on legal matters related to contracts, compliance, due diligence, governance and management of corporate transactions
- Experience negotiating and drafting commercial contracts, including vendor contracts, leases, employment agreements, NDAs, business and real property purchase and sale agreements, and shareholder and operating agreements
- Experience forming new business entities, including corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships, limited partnership and other business entities
- Ability to conduct shareholder and board meetings and prepare resolutions, meeting minutes, written consents, and other documents
- Ability to assist with asset and stock purchase transactions, including conducting due diligence and drafting documents including stock purchase agreements, asset purchase agreements, membership interest purchase agreements, security and pledge agreements, promissory notes, president and secretary certificates and other required commercial documents
- Ability to conduct legal research and check regulatory compliance for existing business operations and new ventures, including sales tax compliance and registration as a foreign entity when tax nexus is established
- Familiarity with intellectual property legal matters and ability to draft intellectual property licenses and evaluate, register and defend trademarks and copyrights is a plus
- Experience advising clients regarding labor and employment matters, including wage and hour matters, hiring and termination practices, drafting of enforceable employment agreements and restrictive covenant agreements and representing employers and individuals regarding violations of NY and federal labor laws and discrimination laws is a plus
